Last fall, the Brookdale Park Conservancy worked in partnership with Essex County to sponsor an online survey designed to gather feedback from parents and caregivers in our community about what they liked most about Brookdale Park's current playground (constructed in 1997) and what they would most like to see provided in a new one. In just under two weeks, nearly 500 people participated and the survey results were provided the new playground's design team for consideration.
Today, as the design for the new playground was unveiled to the public, we were thrilled to see so many popular requests that have been worked into the plans including additional swings, natural climbing structures, a year round shaded area for the littlest ones, a cooling station (misters!), additional seating, direct access to restrooms and a single fenced enclosure that still allows for separation between big kid and tot play systems. Last, but certainly not least, Brookdale Park's new modernized playground will also be more accessible and appropriate to address the needs of all children - offering a large ramped playground system for children aged 5-12 as well as dozens of free-standing play activities throughout that encourage children of all abilities to play together.
IMPORTANT NOTE - HELP SPREAD THE WORD! Be aware that the entire Brookdale Park playground area will be closed off during construction - which is slated to start Monday, July 6. Construction is expected to take three months with the new playground re-opening the second week in September. We'll keep our mailing list subscribers and Facebook fans updated if/when that timeframe changes.
Thank you to all that participated in our survey and helped shape this wonderful new play environment and thank you also to our supporters - Essex County included! - that enabled us to conduct the survey in the first place!
